이 연구는 ‘미국 내 태권도 수련생의 도장 선택요인 탐색’이라는 주제 아래 《여럿 가운데서 필요한 것을 골라 뽑음》이라는 ‘선택’요인에 초점을 두고 첫째, 왜 태권도장을 찾는가? 둘째, 태권도와 타 무술과의 차이는 무엇인가? 셋째, 태권도의 (교육적) 가치는 무엇인가?라는 세 가지 의 물음을 시작으로 그 답을 찾아가고자 하였다. 이를 위한 노력의 일환으로 인문사회과학적 연구방법의 하나인 질적 연구방법을 활용한 결과 다름과 같은 결론을 도출할 수 있었다. 첫째, 수련생의 경우 다양한 형태의 경로를 통해 태권도를 처음 접하게 되었는데, 이 가운데 가장 주목 되는 부분은 바로 시범이었다. 물론 시범 그 자체가 태권도를 선택하는 결정적인 요인으로 작용 했다고 보기는 어렵다. 하지만 태권도를 시작하게 되는 일련의 과정 속에 시범은 태권도에 대한 흥미와 교육적 동기부여를 가져다주었다. 둘째, 학부모의 경우 태권도장을 선택하는데 있어 교 육적 측면을 매우 강조하고 있었다. 태권도장의 체계적인 교육프로그램은 수련생들로 하여금 유희(遊?)를 자아낼 뿐만 아니라 학부모에게 있어 자녀들의 건강과 예의 등을 중시하는 태권도 의 교육적 의미를 한층 더 빛나게 하였다. 셋째, 지도자의 경우 태권도를 교육함에 있어 외형적 발달(기량)뿐만 아니라 내면의 성숙(인성)을 강조하고 있었다. 이 같은 과정은 지도자, 수련생 그리고 태권도 프로그램의 상호작용을 통해 올바른 교육으로 완성되는 전형적인 교수학습 구조 로써 미국 내 태권도장 역시 이 같은 형태의 구조를 띠고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

Under the title of 'Research on determination factor for choosing center of Taekwondo trainee in the USA' Focusing on 'Choice' as 《select what you need from among many》 we would find answer from these 3 questions : first Why they seek Taekwondo center? second What is difference between Taekwondo and Martial arts? third What is (educational) value of Taekwondo. Result using the qualitative research which is one of social and human sciences reached the following conclusions. First, trainee first experienced Taekwondo through various route, the most attractive thing among them is demonstration. Of curse, It is difficult to see that demonstration is crucial factor when starting Taekwondo. However, demonstration aroused interest and motivated in the process of starting Taekwondo. Second, in the case of parents, they think much of educational aspect when choosing Taekwondo center. systematic education program is meaning education about children's health and courtesy to parents as well as raising trainee's pleasure. Third, in the case of leader, It is emphasis on not only external development(skill), but also inner maturity(personality). This process is typical teaching learning structure completed right education through interaction of instructor, trainee and Taekwondo program, It is verificated that Taekwondo center in USA have also same structure.
