Purpose

This study aimed to explore the cultural and educational potential of Taekwondo through the experiences of international students who participated in a short-term Taekwondo cultural learning program at U University in South Korea.

Method

Using qualitative descriptive research methods, thematic analysis was used to analyze open-ended questionnaires administered immediately following the program.

Results

The findings revealed four subthemes: “Cultural Practice through Ritual,” “Embodiment of Traditional Etiquette,” “Experiencing Collectivist Values,” and “Integrated Mind-Body Training” under the central theme of “Building Cultural Bridges through Taekwondo Training.” Participants directly experienced Korean cultural values through traditional training methods such as bowing, using names, and meditation, internalizing concepts such as respect, order, and harmony.

Conclusion

This study suggests that even brief experiential education utilizing Taekwondo can be an effective platform for cultural learning. Furthermore, it suggests the need for future program design to incorporate interactive learning structures, integration of social and emotional learning, and sustainable long-term operation.
