The Research for Improvement of Taekwondo Freestyle Poomsae Evaluation Method

This study is a basic research to improve the current evaluation method for Freestyle Poomsae (FSP). Its purpose is to provide basic data which contribute to further developing Poomsae as a sport. The Delphi method was applied to collect and analyze data from 22 experts who are directly or indirectly related to Taekwondo Poomsae including judges, players, coaches, administrators, competition operators, and professors. The survey was conducted three times, and 52 items were extracted from 10 areas including the concept of FSP, institution, and judgment. Based on the result of analyzing the importance of each area, 34 items showed a high level of importance: and judgment. Based on FSP, Pimportance: and judgment. Based on the result of analkicking motion, jumping height, rotation angle, etc.’, ‘Clarity of the rule of jumping side kick’, and ‘Presentation of clear criteria of difficulty', etc. The findings of this study showed that it is necessary to improve regulations and evaluation standards of FSP in order to develop it into an international sport event.
